Standard
Sizing
Using
standard measurements can often be a frustrating experience as
standards vary and because the number of measurements and number
of sizes available are often so limited. With the Dress Shop
family of products, you get standard sizing that can actually
work for you with 3 mouse clicks, in a matter of seconds. Here's
why:
1. We include 3 complete sets of standard sizes that have been researched by the National
Bureau of Standards, including children's (sizes 2 through
6x/7), girls (sizes 7R to 16R), and girls slim (sizes 7S to 16S). These standards are being used
or adopted by most manufacturers in the garment and pattern
industries.
2. We include 20 separate sizing options for both the upper
body and lower body seprately. That's 1200 tables of
measurements that you can choose from (3 body shapes, 20 sizes
upper body and 20 sizes lower), rather than the 10 or 12 charts
offered by many manufacturers. Your chance of finding a chart
that is close to your own actual measurements are greatly
improved with this approach to standards. 3. These standard
charts include 24 body measurements which are used to draft your
patterns, not just the 4 or 5 (bust, waist, hip, ab, and inseam,
perhaps) that many manufacturers use for their standards charts.
Again, your chance of finding options that fit are far greater
using the Dress Shop standards charts. [top]
Quick Fit
Sizing But, what if that just is not good
enough? If you do not match one of these 1200 standard
charts close enough, then you might want to go with the Quick
Fit option instead. Here, you again select misses versus women's
measurements, then enter your actual height, bust, waist, hip,
and inseam measurements. The program will then look up your size
in our full set of standard charts and set your other body
measurements accordingly. So far, the only major difference from
the standards described above is that everything is
automatically adjusted to work properly with your actual height. But,
that's just the start. Now, use the Adjustments list (see photo
below) to set the actual measurements of any "problem"
area you might have. Tilted waist, high waist, rounded back,
skinny biceps, lowered bust, or any other variation from
"standard" that you care to specify. Enter the actual
values you need in just those areas where fit has been difficult
for you in the past. Take only the measurements you need and be
done and drafting patterns in 15 minutes!

When
and if you want, you can pop out the full list of measurements
being used and see how they are adjusted to those changes that
you choose to enter. Or, you can measure and enter the full 24
if you prefer. You can spend as much or as little time as you
care to with Dress Shop's Quick Fit measuring option.

Chart Sizing But, what if that is still not good
enough? When you want the best fit possible, you are ready
to move up to Dress Shop's full measurement chart. With 59
separate measurements, the full chart takes longer to measure,
but with the illustrations, measuring guidelines, popup help,
and measuring videos, you get all the help you need to take
these measurements and insure that you will get the best fit
possible.
